Nokia will launch a 6-inch Windows Phone phablet in 2014 as a direct competitor to the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, reports suggest
Nokia is said to be working around the clock to bring a 6-inch phablet device to market in early 2014, reports claim.
The device, expected to carry the Lumia moniker, will of course be powered by Windows Phone 8 and is thought to be the Finnish company’s attempt at tapping into the popularity of handsets like the Galaxy Note 2 and its soon-to-be-launched successor, the Galaxy Note 3.
Details about the device are pretty scant at present although reports suggest it will feature a 6-inch display. This is isn’t the first report we’ve heard of a large-form Nokia handset and it could well be the first Windows Phone device to benefit from a Full HD 1080p display.
Based on the speculated launch schedule – late 2013, early 2014 – it’s entirely possible the Lumia Phablet will feature Qualcomm’s soon-to-hit-mass-market Snapdragon 800 chipset.
PureView camera technology is also a distinct possibility. Nokia needs to make some waves in the space, and nothing says ‘hello, boys!’ like a phablet handset with a 1080p display, ultra-high-end processor, and a 41-megapixel camera.
Nokia refuses to talk about unannounced handsets, so as always take this information with a liberal pinch of salt. Still, the idea of a Windows Phone phablet device, once GDR3 has been rolled out, does make a lot of sense.
What’s your take on this? Would you ditch the Galaxy Note 3 for a similarly specced Nokia Windows Phone 8 phablet?

Windows Phone is no substitute for Android or iOS
At present, Full HD resolution displays are not supported inside Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 platform but that will all change with the release of Windows Phone GDR3, which will add support for next-gen chipsets and Full HD display resolutions, amongst other things.Based on the speculated launch schedule – late 2013, early 2014 – it’s entirely possible the Lumia Phablet will feature Qualcomm’s soon-to-hit-mass-market Snapdragon 800 chipset.
