Invalid Security Token When Updating Windows Media Center on Windows 8

8:25 PM
Yesterday one of my clients called me and he told me that while updating Windows Media Center on Windows 8, he received an Invalid security token error. I had never heard of this issue before so I did some research about this error message and found out that this may be caused due to bad or corrupted Windows Media Center Library. So I decided to rebuild the Windows Media Center Library.

Invalid security token

The Library folder is a system protected file. So first we need to enable Show Hide Files & Folder and Show Hide system protected file as well.
  • Go to Windows 8 Menu screen
  • Type in Folder Options and select Settings and click on Folder Options
  • Now click on the View Tab and look for Hidden Files and Folders section.
  • Then click on “Show hidden files, folders and drivers” & Uncheck on “Hide protected operating system files”

Rebuild Windows Media Center Library

Now that you have enabled these options to follow the below steps:
  • Press Win + R and type in %Programdata% and press Enter
  • Then type Open Microsoft folder, then eHome
  • Now you’ll see a file called mediacenterdatastore.DB. Delete that file and reboot the system
After the reboot the Windows Media Center seemed to work fine. I am sure that this way will help you too, should you face a similar problem.

Note: If this Tutorial and News worked for you (and it should work), please leave a comment below. Thanks.
